These two endangered penguin chicks were hatched last week at a zoo in The rockhopper penguins that have never been successfully bred in captivity anywhere else in Europe weigh just 90 grammes each according to staff at Vienna’s Schonbrunn Zoo.
By creating conditions simulating that of the penguins’ natural environment from artificial light through to temperature control the zoo has successfully managed to breed the endangered species.
Now the latest penguin chicks are settling in with zoo keepers feeding them fine herring filet puree four times a day.
Rockhopper penguins are native to islands off the coast of Antarctica. They get their name because they hop over rocks and crevices on the shores where they live.
