After being closed for about six months, the African black-footed penguin exhibit, located in the Rocky Coasts area of Monroe County's Seneca Park Zoo, was officially reopened this afternoon (Thursday, March 31). In early 2010, a significant leak was detected in the 14-year-old penguin pool. In addition to repairing the leak, improvements were made to the exhibit based on advances in construction, design, and observations of penguin behavior.
Renovations to the penguin exhibit include new heating pads on the outside and shelters with misters. "We want to maximize the penguins' use of the exhibit," County Zoo Director Larry Sorel said.
