Ms
Lisa Ross, an intern at the Southern African Foundation for the
Conservation of Coast Birds (Sanccob), moving one of 247 endangered
African penguin chicks after feeding. The penguins were brought to
Sanccob at the start of "chick season" last month. Sanccob is requesting
members of the public to help with the chicks' rehabilitation through
donations or by adopting a "Christmas chick".
The penguins will undergo a
rehabilitation programme before being released back into the ocean. The
African penguin is listed as endangered by the International Union for
Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources, with a steady decline in
their numbers over the past decade.
