Fluffy king penguin chicks are only weeks away from greeting Melbourne Aquarium visitors.
The
hatchlings are expected to appear in February after aquarium keepers
announced on Thursday that the first eggs of 2016 had been spotted
nestled in between penguins' legs. The parents are taking turns incubating the eggs as keepers keep a closer eye on the embryos' development.
Melbourne Aquarium says its king penguin breeding program ranks among the best in the world.
The king penguin, which can grow up to a metre tall and 16 kilograms, is the largest penguin species after the emperor penguin.
