On a day when elephants are on their way to Omaha, a little penguin has some news of its own.
A rockhopper
penguin chick born at the Henry Doorly Zoo & Aquarium on Dec. 12
finally has a name: Francis. A naming contest drew more than 1,400
in-person submissions.
The name was chosen by keepers
and was submitted by Joe Danks, who received a penguin-themed gift
basket from the zoo for submitting the winning entry.
The penguin chick went on display
on Feb. 24 after being hand-raised off-exhibit. It was placed in a
playpen in the Scott Aquarium to keep it dry while its waterproof
feathers grew in.
