(WFLA) – The Paris Zoo has shown off its newest addition to the
penguin family – the four Humboldt penguin chicks born in captivity.
Veterinarians took them out of the nest for the first time this week
to weigh them. These are the first ever recorded penguin births at the
zoo. The chicks were born in April.
It is unknown if the penguins are male or female.
This particular species is considered vulnerable. They are found in
the wild in coastal Chile and Peru. Researchers estimate that there are
fewer than 10,000 mature Humboldt penguins left in the wild.
