Decatur, IL – The Humboldt Penguin Exhibit at Scovill Zoo will celebrate on Monday, March 24, at
1:00 p.m. with a Greater Decatur Chamber of Commerce Ribbon Cutting Ceremony. The ribbon cutting will allow the Decatur community to view the new penguin exhibit and meet the staff of Scovill Zoo and the Decatur Parks Foundation.
Nine warm-weather penguins from five different zoos across the country are now settled into the habitat at Scovill Zoo, which features two glass viewing windows and a pop-up dome to allow families an unobstructed view of the lively birds. “In addition to being a welcome new attraction at Scovill Zoo, the penguin exhibit will draw visitors from across Central Illinois, boosting regional tourism dollars for the entire community,” said Chris Riley, President of the Decatur Park Board of Commissioners.
The much-anticipated attraction contributed to record-breaking numbers at the 2013 Boo at the Zoo event and is expected to boost zoo attendance for years to come. “We look forward to the kick-off of the yellow bus season and seeing the excitement of the new exhibit through the children’s eyes,” Riley said.
Advance registration is not required. The event is free and all members of the community are invited to join.
