IT’S double trouble at Manly Sea Life Sanctuary with two baby penguins welcomed into the world – the first chicks of this year’s breeding season.

While the fluffy little penguins, affectionately named Charles Xavier and Magneto, have tripled in size since they hatched six weeks ago, they will remain in the back-of-house nursery until they are bigger.

Senior aquarist Robbie McCracken said staff wanted the pair to bond with their parents, Princess and Versace, before joining the rest of the colony in Penguin Cove.

“The births mark our second successful breeding season, which is a true testament to the excellent animal husbandry skills of our marine biologists,” Mr McCracken said. “Little penguins might be the smallest penguins in the world, but these precious new additions are rapidly gaining weight and growing up before our very eyes.”
