PINE KNOLL SHORES, N.C.--The penguins are coming! No, not
Nickelodeon's Penguins of Madagascar. A group of African penguins will
be appearing at the North Carolina Aquarium at Pinke Knoll Shores
beginning this Saturday, May 12th.
The North Carolina Aquarium at Pine Knoll Shores will bring thePenguin Plungeto visitors beginning this Saturday at 9am. The whole thing kicks off with penguin programs and appearances by Splash, the penguin mascot. there will also be an official ribbon cutting to open then exhibit, and a prize drawing for anyone that comes dressed in their best tux, black and white attire or penguin themed outfit.
The exhibit will feature four male African penguins. Suki, South, Sly and Oswald are all captive bred penguins. They will be on display at the aquarium until September 30th. The exhibit will promote a message of conservation, emphasizing that Suki, South, Sly and Oswald are captive bred because their species of penguin is an endangered species. It will explain how pollution, oil spills, overfishing and other factors have led to the African penguin being in danger of being wiped out.
The entire exhibit is free with with admission or membership. General admission is $8 for visitors age 13 - 61, $7 for senior citizens age 62 and older, $6 for visitors age 3 - 12, and free for children 2 and under, as well as for NC Aquarium Society members.
