Peckish penguin picks up the litterPublished Date: 01 January 2009
A PECKISH penguin is encouraging pupils at a Lynn school to reduce litter.
The colourful creature gobbles up their snack waste with an appreciative "yum yum" and then asks for more.
Two of the talking bins have been bought for Fairstead Primary School after discussions between the school council and the local Improving Neighbourhoods team.
Neighbourhood Partnership officer Sue Payne said pupils told her they wanted to do more to keep the school environment tidy. She suggested they applied for a grant to buy the bins and they were awarded £500.
"The bins have been a great success.
"The children love them," said Mrs Payne.
Headteacher Mrs Suzanne O'Connor said monitors were in charge of taking the bins outside at break times and they were already making a difference to the school.
