Penguins Back Where They Belong At Milwaukee County Zoo11 Penguins Moved For Renovations
MILWAUKEE -- Some of the most popular animals at Milwaukee County's Zoo are back on display after a four-month absence.
Dozens of people gathered at the zoo on Thursday to watch the Humboldt penguins march into their newly renovated home.
Zookeepers moved the 11 penguins to a different exhibit that was closed to the public while they made upgrades.
They said the new space will provide a better experience for the animals and zoo visitors.
"We took out all the glass. We did some repairs to the pool, and we did a lot of repairs to the rock work so the penguins can get around a lot better," penguin keeper Heather Neldner said.
Zookeepers said the new space also allows the penguins to climb higher for a new view of their new home.
The new Humboldt penguin exhibit will be open all year long.
