IFAW steps in to save penguins

IFAW steps in to save penguins

(NECN) - Oil spills aren't always found by environmental officials.

Instead, the evidence of what's known as a "ghost" spill can be read all over the backs of affected animals.

Click on the video to learn more about how the International Fund for Animal Welfare stepped in to save a group of oiled, but plucky penguins earlier this spring.

The penguins were treated by the South African Foundation for the Conservation of Coastal Birds or SANCCOB.

This is not the first time that SANCCOB has been involved in the relocation of large numbers of African penguins.

In the year 2000, the world followed the successful return of thousands of penguins from South Africa, after they were oiled during the Treasure oil spill.

SANCCOB is an international leader in seabird rehabilitation helping to maintain the African penguin population.
