New Penguin Exhibit Waddles Into MN Zoo

APPLE VALLEY, Minn. -- It's a penguin party at the Minnesota Zoo.
"I usually don't say animals are cute, but these guys certainly are," chuckles Jimmy Pichner, the Avian Supervisor at the Minnesota Zoo.

The 3M Penguins of the African Coast Exhibit officially opens to the general public on Saturday, July 9. The exhibit features 18 African penguins and will give spectators a beak to beak look at the aquatic birds above and below the water.

The zoo spent two years preparing for this exhibit and constructed a brand-new habitat which replicates South Africa's famed Boulders Beach.

"It's a new species for us," says Pichner. "They're an animal that kids can relate to, they're fun to be around, and fun to watch swim. People are going to really enjoy this exhibit."

For more information on the grand opening check out the zoo's site dedicated to the exhibit at dothewaddle.com.
