Update on Oil Spill in Bay of Plenty (Little Penguins)

Hope for wildlife in the Bay of Plenty

13/11/2011
There's some hope for wildlife in the Bay of Plenty, with just one oiled penguin found overnight.
The little blue penguin was picked up by a wildlife team at Mount Maunganui.
National Oiled Wildlife response team coordinator Heather McConnell says night patrols went out last night to check penguin burrows.
She says they checked 65 little blue penguins, and collected only one oiled bird.
However, she says some oiling has been found on Leisure Island, which could affect the penguin population there.
Shoreline clean-up teams are following up on it today.
