Penguins paddle in

Little penguins have been spotted at Clareville and Paradise beaches

RANGER patrols at Clareville and Paradise Beach have been stepped up after reports of little penguins in the area, also known as fairy penguins.
According to the Clareville and Bilgola Plateau Residents Association, a number of residents fear dogs could attack the penguins, which has happened at Manly’s little penguin colony.
Association president John Waring said residents are hoping the penguins begin a colony.
“I know there’s a colony at Lion Island and they very, very seldom come to shore but recently they have been,” he said.
“What we’re trying to do is keep the dogs away because people still let their dogs off their leashes.”
Pittwater Council is reminding residents no dogs are allowed on- or off-leash on any beaches except for at Rowland Reserve and Careel Bay.
A council spokeswoman said ranger patrols have been increased at Clareville and Paradise beaches.
