Male or female? Aquarium vistors find out Thursday
Updated: Monday, 03 Jun 2013
MYSTIC,
Conn. (WPRI) – The DNA results that will reveal the genders of two
African penguin chicks at Mystic Aquarium will be announced on Thursday. The four-month-old chicks, Purple Red and Purple Gray, are joining the aquarium’s 15 male and 11 female adult African penguins.
Because African penguins do not differ in appearance, it is unknown whether they are male or female, leaving the need for a DNA test.
Purple Red hatched on February 1 and Purple Gray hatched on February 10.
Aquarium guests will have the opportunity to guess the chicks’ genders prior to the reveal and two lucky guests will walk away with one-of-a-kind paintings created by the chicks’ fathers, Red Green and Gray Silver.
Mystic Aquarium will announce the genders on Thursday, June 6 at 11 a.m.
