THEY're usually found in South America rather than south of the River Don!
But on Saturday Humboldt penguins will take over a section of the Frenchgate Centre in Doncaster.

"It is certainly a unique experience for our shoppers and we are delighted to give people the opportunity to see these amazing animals up close," said Amanda Phillips, centre manager.

The five penguins will be housed in an specially built enclosure for the day and will even have their own paddling pool to play in.

They will be supervised by a handler who will be on hand to answer any questions.

Talks will also take place on the hour from 11am until 3pm, lasting approximately 10 minutes, allowing shoppers to learn more about the penguins and how they live in their natural habitat.

Ms Phillips added: "We want our visitors to enjoy every aspect of coming to the Frenchgate and families are an important part of our community.

"We want to give them something a little different to other shopping centres."

The penguins will be at the centre 11am-4pm, outside the Wilkinson and Claus Ohlson stores on the upper level.

The Humboldt penguin is a South American penguin.

It breeds in coastal Peru and Chile on the Pacific coast.

The penguin is named after the cold water current it swims in, which is itself named after Alexander von Humboldt, an explorer.
