Department of Conservation staff are upset following four separate attacks on wild animals in the Catlins.
A sealion was found with a diving spear embedded in it and another is suffering with unnatural abrasions.
A penguin died after being attacked by a dog, and several others have been injured.
DOC said the chicks of the dead penguin are likely to become casualties too.
The incidents follow last week's sentencing of 20-year-old Harley David McKenzie for an attack on a leopard seal in Te Waewae Bay last year.
