PINE KNOLL SHORES, N.C.--The North Carolina Aquarium at Pine
Knoll Shores is hosting a special exhibit titled "Penguin Plunge"
through September 30th. As part of the exhibit, a group of sand
sculptors called Sandy Feat have constructed a sixteen-ton sand
scultpture titled, "Glacier Gliders." The giant sculpture is now at the
entrance to the aquarium's Penguin Plunge exhibit.Published: July 02, 2012
The artists of the Sandy Feat team hail mostly from Central North Carolina. It took the team an entire weekend to finish the design. The team had to use a front end loader to bring in the sand. From there, they used a variety of tools from shovels, trowels, and spray bottles, to artist brushes and even drinking straws to bring the sculpture to life.
Sandy Feats has made a tradition of building a different sculpture for the aquarium each year. Aquarium guests can check out the sculpture free with general admission.
