Penguin walk garners fans in Calgary

By  stephanie.froese and Ian Campbell

A lot of squeals were heard as dozens gathered at the Calgary Zoo Friday to see the penguin walk.
The Zoo’s most popular attraction has entering its second week and already has admirers. Flapping, big eyes, and excited faces were seen from the birds as the event got underway.

Resource and interpreter coordinator for the Calgary Zoo, Christy Begus, walks the route with the penguins each day and said it’s up to them if they go out or not. “So far they haven’t missed a day and we’re really excited about that and we’re crossing our fingers that we’ll be able to keep it up until the spring, regular weather kicks in here in Calgary,” said Begus.

The walk is a big hit for younger Calgarians like Abram, there with his mother.“They were really cute,” said Abraham, adding that he likes to pick out his favorite penguins during the walk.

The penguin walk takes place every day of the week.
