The snaps, taken by photographer David Tipling, documents emperor penguins battling the cold in the Weddell Sea and Ross Sea areas of Antarctica.
In one picture, a fluffy chick keeps cosy by standing on her mother's feet, whereas another sees a whole group of chicks huddled together in a crèche.

David trekked to some of the most remote areas of the world to capture these heart-warming images, all of which can be viewed in his new book Penguins: Close Encounters.

Emperors are the largest type of penguin and they can grow as tall as 4ft. They spend their lives in the chilling climates of the Arctic so will often huddle together to keep each other warm and escape the harsh winds. Both male and female emperors share the task of looking after their offspring, taking in turns to swim for food and babysit their little one.

IT’S the picture of true parental love...two doting Emperor penguins create a heart shape with their necks as they protect their chick from the brutal cold.

In another shot, a chick snuggles down to escape the deadly freezing winds while a towering lone parent fusses over him. The
Emperors have seen their popularity soar after films such as Happy Feet
and Surf’s Up as well as the 2005 documentary March Of The Penguins.
Perhaps it’s time for a Hollywood remake – Love Story...The Penguin Edition.
