Calgary Zoo kicks off 'lovey' Valentine's weekend with penguin treats

Penguins, hippos and gorillas all get some special lovin'

The Calgary Zoo has kicked off a "lovey, hearty" Valentine's weekend with special heart-shaped treats for the penguins, zoo officials said.

The penguins were given herring — frozen into special shapes — to play with before eating the fish as the ice blocks melt.
It's all part of the zoo's Valentine's weekend celebrations, which go on until Sunday.
"We do some fun [activities] themed in a lovey, hearty way," says general curator Colleen Baird.
Tomorrow, in honour of World Hippo Day, the hippos will be getting special watermelon treats.
