Edmonton is home to a baby African penguin. West Edmonton Mall
announced on Christmas Eve that the new addition was born on November 25
at their Marine Life facility.
The chick, which has yet to be named, is the child of resident mall penguins Sweet Pea and Bam Bam. The gender of the baby is still unknown. Marine staff expect that the baby will soon be weaned by the parents and be ready to leave the nest.
This is the 11th chick to be born at the mall, bringing the black and white seabird colony to 20.
The African penguin is considered to be an endangered species.
