CCTV footage has captured penguins dropping in to an off-licence in the latest Christmas campaign dreamt up by British retailers.

Oddbins released the footage purporting to show a waddle of escaped penguins storming one of its stores to provide back-up to the retailer's mascot, Pepita the Mexican penguin, to have it out with the bears that feature in many of the wine merchant's windows.

They were, however, provided by a talent scout and normally reside at a private zoo, and Oddbins assured consumers that they enjoyed their outing.

Oddbins is encouraging shoppers to get behind either #TeamPenguin or #TeamBears, and the next instalment of the campaign will see bears from the window displays stage a retaliation.

Oddbins managing director Ayo Akintola said: "Our festive campaign with Pepita the Mexican penguin at the helm is the essence of what makes Oddbins both a bit bonkers and quite different to your regular, dull wine merchant. "We like to disrupt the norm and how better to do that this Christmas than an epic turf war with penguins and bears."
