World's oldest penguin gets cancer treatment at CSU. 9NEWS at 4 p.m. 12/11/14.
KUSA - Swimming and waddling around at her exhibit at the Pueblo Zoo, it's hard to believe Tess is the world's oldest African penguin at 40 years old.
So when the African penguin named Tess was diagnosed with skin cancer on her face, the zoo sent her to Colorado State University to receive radiation treatment.
Veterinarians were able to remove a tumor near her eye and return her back to the zoo after a two week recovery period.
Tess is now swimming again and spending time with her younger mate Mongo
In the wild, African penguins live to be about 20 years old.
Penguin experts say the species is very close to extinction.
