As if Sea Fare wasn’t enough, the Aquarium of the Pacific is
hosting its first-ever Penguin Pre-Party fundraiser later this month
featuring acclaimed marine life artist Wyland.“This is our 10th annual Sea Fare, and we thought this would be a good opportunity to do something we haven’t done before and throw a pre-party,” Jillian Koehring, event supervisor, explained. “Our pre-party guests will get VIP arrival to Sea Fare, specialty drinks, a chance to meet Wyland and have an opportunity to take a photo standing next to one of our penguins.”
The Pre-Party, as well as Sea Fare, are designed to raise money for the Aquarium of the Pacific and its various programs. Gazette Newspapers is one of the sponsors for the evening, supporting a nonprofit organization dedicated to creating stewards for the Pacific Ocean through educational and cultural programming.
Wyland, who is best known in the city for painting the life-size marine life on the outside of the Long Beach Arena, is a world-renowned artist who promotes marine life conservation through his work. In addition to greeting guests at the Penguin Pre-Party, Wyland will be painting live during Sea Fare with two paintings to be auctioned to the highest bidder.
“The two paintings he does on stage are going to be the last items sold in the live auction,” Koehring said. “We’ve never had anything like this in our live auction, and we don’t know what animals Wyland is going to be painting, so we are excited to see how this turns out.”
The Penguin Pre-Party starts at 6 p.m., followed by Sea Fare at 7 p.m., on Saturday, Oct. 19. Tickets to the Penguin Pre-Party are $100 per person. Admission to Sea Fare is an additional $125 and includes tastes from more than 25 different food vendors, open bars, auctions, access to the “Go Fish” game, music, dancing and a rare chance to see the aquarium’s exhibits after dark.
